Hymenoplasty Surgery

Hymenoplasty is a type of gynaecological surgery aimed at restoring the hymen. Usually, this surgery is performed by sewing together the remnants of the hymen. In women, the hymen is the fold of mucous membrane which comprises the hole. It helps cover the opening of the hymen. As a rule (but not always), virginity captivity breaks during the first sexual intercourse (the process is known as defloration). In addition, other reasons behind the rupture of the hymen could be physical exertion, tampon insertion, and injuries.
Hymenoplasty surgery, also called virginity regain surgery, allows women to restore the integrity of the hymen. Since the stitches get dissolved after a few days of successful operations, no traces of surgical intervention remain after a certain duration. For performing the virginity repair surgery, it is recommended to contact experienced specialists who are well versed with all the details of the process. They can minimize the risks of postoperative complications and reduce the recovery period.

Types of Hymen Repair Surgery

Currently, there are two types of interventions available for hymen repair surgery:

Short-term plastic: With short-term hymenoplasty surgery, the preservation of hymen is provided for up to two weeks. This intervention is far less traumatic and is featured by minimal blood loss, quick recovery, no discomfort, and pain, as well as pronounced oedema.

Long-term hymenoplasty: This surgical intervention ensures the long-term preservation of the hymen (until its integrity is violated during sexual contact). This surgical intervention is based on the reconstruction of hymen from epithelial tissue. Some of the advantages of this virginity repair surgery include the naturalness of the result and the long-term preservation of the hymen. But this method comes with its drawbacks like it has a longer recovery period and significant injury to the tissues of the vagina. In addition, after the completion of the surgery, the woman experiences discomfort, pain, and swelling.

Why Do You Need Hymen Restoration Surgery?

Hymenoplasty, both long-term and short-term, is usually performed:
  • Before wedding
  • After sexual assault
  • To renew the spice of sexual life in a long marriage
  • Due to ethical and religious considerations

Contraindications Associated with Hymenoplasty Surgery

Absolute contraindications include:

  • Diabetes
  • Oncological diseases
  • Serious mental disorders
  • Pathologies of blood clotting
  • Dangerous pathologies of internal organs
  • Serious diseases of the cardiovascular system
Relative contraindications include inflammatory processes, breastfeeding and pregnancy, genital infections, and menstruation. Before proceeding with the surgery, it is necessary to eliminate all the existing negative factors (to cure a cold, for example).

What test needed to be performed before Hymenoplasty?

The hymen repair surgery is straightforward, but it requires some serious considerations. It comprises a consultation with a gynaecologist and examination. During the examination, the doctor can also detect all the existing pathologies. In addition, all the nuances of the intervention are discussed with the patient.

The medical examination comprises:

  • ECG reports
  • X-rays reports
  • Video colporrhaphy
  • Blood and urine tests
  • Consultation with a therapist
  • A smear on the microflora of the vagina

How is Hymen Recovery Surgery Performed?

In most cases, hymenoplasty requires less than an hour and is carried out in stages:

Anaesthesia: The hymenoplasty surgeon chooses specific drugs based on the individual characteristics of the patient, her wishes, and her health conditions.

Hymenoplasty Surgery: During the short-term operation, the doctor stitches the remnants of the hymen along the edges. During long-term surgery, the muscular, mucosal and submucosal layers are isolated from the tissues of the vagina and then stitched together.

Postoperative rehabilitation in the clinic: Usually, after the commencement of surgery, a patient needs to stay in the medical facility for only 3-4 hours.

Rehabilitation

Recovery after hymen repair surgery does not take much time. Usually, the surgeon provides the following list of recommendations after the surgery:

  • Nutrition: During the rehabilitation period, it is recommended to exclude vegetables, fruits, spices, and black bread from the diet, since these can cause bloating and constipation.
  • Physical loads: A patient should not lift weights or indulge in heavy workouts or sports.
  • Prevention of the risk of inflammatory and infectious processes: The surgeon may prescribe several medications for the patient for quicker recovery.
