DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A LIFT AND AN IMPLANT
The two terms: LIFT and IMPLANT are majorly used in the dictionary of plastic and cosmetic surgery. For a layman it’s definitely not an easy task to know about these things in great detail. Hence, it adds one more pointer to the list of difficulties, confusions and misconceptions of a person who might be considering a plastic surgery treatment.
Let’s start talking about a LIFT.
A lift as the name suggests, involves the lifting and pulling up the sagged and loosened skin. Excess sagging skin and fat are removed and the procedure(s) can improve a dimpled, irregular skin surface. It improves the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports skin and fat.
As it is procedure of pulling up the sagged skin and giving the body part a proper shape, a person might consider various body parts for getting one.
A body lift (including abdominal area, thighs and buttocks), breast lift, face lift and the neck lift are the most preferred treatments these years.
Lifts are not intended strictly for the removal of excess fat. Liposuction alone can remove excess fat deposits where skin has good elasticity and is able to naturally conform to new body contours. In cases where skin elasticity is poor, lift techniques along with liposuction may be recommended.
Implants are actually a material placed under the skin tissues. The main objective of placing these implants is to enhance the shape of the body part. Generally, breast implants, cheek implants and facial implants are brought in use. All modern implants, regardless of filling material, have an outer shell or envelope constructed of silicone elastomer. Silicone is rubber and is used in numerous medical devices including heart valves, drains, catheters, and other implants such as chin, hand, and testicular implants. The implants come in many sizes and a variety of shapes such as round, oval, or contoured for more directed projection in one area of the breast. Various types of implants are:
- SILICONE GEL-FILLED IMPLANTS
- SALINE-FILLED IMPLANTS
- TEXTURED IMPLANTS
It depends the objectives of the patient, which kind of shape is desired and the body part where these are going to be placed. So, in a nutshell, Lifts are meant to provide a tightened skin look by pulling up the loosened and sagged skin, mostly where the skin has lost its elasticity.
Whereas, on the other hand, the implants are the materials placed under the soft skin tissues to enhance the beauty, shape and size. Implants can be placed under the skin with the aim of loosened and sagged skin but this is not the sole reason for using them.
